Finish Hull: Hull painted in the original colors OR polish unpainted Dimensions (Length): 62cm BOAT TYPE: Yacht period LAUNCH OF YEAR: 1898 CONSTRUCTION COUNTRY: Scotland ARCHITECT: William Fife III BUILDER: William Fife & Sons BACKGROUND: Racy, elegant, the Pen Duick was born in 1898 in Fairlie, on the banks of the Clyde, the pencil stroke of one of the most fashionable architects of his time, the Scottish William Fife III. Guy Tabarly bought it in 1938 at Nantes and teaches his son, Eric, navigation on board. During World War II, the boat suffered damage by inactivity. Lack of means to repair it, the father of Eric Tabarly decided to sell it, but, at the lack of buyers, he ended up giving it to his son in 1952, who wished above all-get. At 21, he became the fifth owner of the boat. Eric Tabaraly decides to restore the ship itself, creating a new hull with successive layers of glass fabric and polyester resin applied on the old shell serving as mold. It tests by an innovative technique that had never yet been used for a yacht of this size. Later, in 1983, the boat underwent major repairs in yards Raymon Labbé. He returns to the water in 1989 at the Sails of Freedom, which includes tall ships in Rouen. He continues to navigate and in 1990, he participated in Mediterranean regattas in Monaco, St. Tropez or Cannes. In 1998, it celebrates 100 years in Bénodet surrounded by friends, fans and attended by eight old yachts designed by William Fife. The anniversary will last 3 days. It was during a ferry to Ireland Pen Duick Eric Tabarly disappeared at sea on the night of June 12 to 13, 1998. AND TODAY ? Today Pen Duick belongs to Jacqueline and Marie Tabarly, respectively wife and daughter of the sea, and is maintained by the Association Eric Tabarly.
